Capcom is diligently working to enhance the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds before its official launch, with a particular focus on reducing the PC's GPU requirements. Dive deeper into Capcom's strategy for optimizing this eagerly awaited game.
On January 19, 2025, Monster Hunter Germany announced via their Twitter (X) account that Capcom is actively improving the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds. They shared a video demonstrating smoother gameplay, featuring a hunter engaging with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern. This footage highlighted the updated Prioritize Framerate mode for the PS5, which enhances fps at the expense of some graphical details.
The announcement also mentioned that similar performance improvements are being applied to the PC version, with a specific goal to lower the recommended GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the post stated.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds are set at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Should Capcom succeed in their optimization efforts, players might soon enjoy the game with lower or mid-tier GPUs, broadening its accessibility.
Capcom is also planning to release a free benchmarking tool, allowing players to find the optimal settings or determine if their PC can handle the game. If the GPU requirements are indeed lowered, players may not need to upgrade their systems just yet.

The first open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds, conducted in October and November 2024, revealed significant performance issues that left many players concerned. Feedback from Steam users highlighted low-poly NPCs and monsters, which made the game appear outdated, reminiscent of PS1 graphics.
In addition to the pixelated character models, players experienced fps drops and other performance hiccups, even on high-end PCs. While some managed to enhance performance, it often came at the cost of visual quality, further degrading the game's appearance.
Despite the troubling beta test results, Capcom responded on November 1, 2024, assuring players that the issue of afterimage noise in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled would be resolved in the final game. They also noted that the game's performance had already been improved beyond what was seen in the beta.
Players will soon have the opportunity to experience these improvements firsthand, as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds, running from February 7-10 and 14-17, featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an unknown monster on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It remains to be seen whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this upcoming test.
