Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition: A Collaboration for Industry Growth

Capcom is fostering industry growth and academic collaboration through its inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a game development tournament exclusively for Japanese students. This initiative aims to invigorate the video game industry by supporting research and cultivating exceptional talent.

A Collaborative Approach to Game Development

The competition utilizes Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE, providing students with hands-on experience using cutting-edge technology. Teams of up to 20 students, each assigned roles mirroring professional game development, will collaborate to create a game within a six-month timeframe. Capcom developers will mentor participants, offering invaluable guidance and insights into industry best practices.

Winning teams will receive significant support, including potential commercialization opportunities for their developed game. This unique opportunity bridges the gap between academia and industry, providing real-world experience and a pathway to professional success.

Competition Details and Eligibility

The application period opens December 9, 2024, and closes January 17, 2025 (subject to change). Eligibility is limited to Japanese students aged 18 or older currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school.

Its use in subsequent titles, including various Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, showcases its versatility and power in creating high-quality gaming experiences. The engine continues to evolve, ensuring its ongoing suitability for cutting-edge game development.
