CD Projekt Red recently revealed exciting details about The Witcher 4, including new regions and monsters, in an interview with Gamertag Radio.

Following the Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga sat down with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They confirmed that The Witcher 4 will introduce players to uncharted territories and terrifying new creatures.

The reveal trailer's mysterious village has been named Stromford, a place where villagers engage in a chilling ritual—sacrificing young girls to appease their "god." This "god," revealed to be a monster called Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky, tricky, tricky bastard," hinting at a formidable and cunning foe. And Bauk isn't alone; players can expect to encounter "plenty of new monsters" throughout their adventure.

While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about these new additions, he remained tight-lipped on specifics, teasing, "You are on The Continent, but you’re experiencing something completely new… I cannot wait to show it to you, but I cannot tell you more right now."

A subsequent interview with Skill UP confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be "more or less" comparable to The Witcher 3. Given that Stromford is located in the far North of The Continent, it suggests Ciri's journey will take her far beyond the familiar territories explored by Geralt.

Elevating NPCs in The Witcher 4

Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted the significant advancements in NPC development. Parris noted the noticeable diversity in the new trailer, contrasting it with The Witcher 3's reuse of character models. Kalemba responded that they are striving to make "every single NPC" feel alive, each with their own unique story and interactions. He emphasized the impact of a close-knit community like Stromford, where residents know each other, influencing their relationships with Ciri and other characters.

CD Projekt Red is also improving NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions, aiming for a more immersive experience than ever before. While details are still scarce, this commitment points towards richer, more engaging interactions with the game's inhabitants.
