Neople, a renowned subsidiary of South Korea’s gaming powerhouse Nexon, is preparing to unleash its highly anticipated hardcore RPG slasher, The First Berserker: Khazan, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. Set to release on March 27, the development team has recently dropped an eight-minute gameplay trailer that dives deep into the game’s complex combat mechanics.

The video highlights three fundamental pillars of combat: attacking, dodging, and defending. While defense demands significantly more stamina than dodging, executing perfect blocks not only conserves stamina but also mitigates stun effects. Meanwhile, dodging, which requires minimal stamina expenditure, relies heavily on accurate timing and swift reflexes to maximize invulnerability frames during evasive actions. Similar to many soulslike games, mastery in The First Berserker: Khazan hinges on players’ ability to strategically manage stamina throughout battles.

When stamina depletes, Khazan falls into a state of exhaustion, rendering him defenseless against enemy assaults. Conversely, this mechanic can also be leveraged against foes with stamina gauges—players can drain their adversaries’ stamina reserves before landing devastating blows. Even for enemies lacking stamina bars, consistent pressure can gradually wear down their resilience. These intense encounters require patience, precise positioning, and flawless timing, though they are tempered by the fact that enemy stamina does not replenish mid-battle.
