В видео Reality Check от 15 марта от PC Gamer британские специалисты по паркуру Тоби Сигар и Бендж Кейв из STORROR изучили реалистичность в Assassin's Creed Shadows. Оба атлета, которые разрабатывают собственную паркур-игру (STORROR Parkour Pro), давние поклонники франшизы.

Эксперты особенно раскритиковали анимацию лазанья протагониста Ясукэ, где он использует колено для поддержки всего веса тела — трюк, который они в шутку назвали "преступлением против паркура". Они объяснили, что эта техника "альпийского колена" привела бы к серьёзной травме в реальном паркуре.

Перед разработчиками стояли значительные задачи по воссозданию феодальной Японии. Исполнительный продюсер Марк-Алексис Коте рассказал The Guardian 17 марта, что Япония рассматривалась для каждой новой игры Assassin's Creed за 16 лет его работы над франшизой, но только сейчас проект дошёл до производства.
