Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a significantly more expansive experience than the studio's previous titles. Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Elden Ring, the developers aim to integrate similar open-world exploration mechanics. Journalist Ben Hanson shares that the game will be set on a single expansive planet, where players will unravel the mysteries of a lost civilization and delve into a new religion, which forms a crucial part of the narrative. Although it's uncertain how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear gameplay structures of their past projects.

In a bold move, The Heretic Prophet will be the first project from the studio where players will navigate the game world solo, without companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the studio's goal is to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe, while also exploring deep themes of faith and religion. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this enigmatic planet that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives, driven by her contract.

Druckmann also highlights that the game's development was influenced by classics like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a shift away from traditional guidance mechanisms, leaning towards a storytelling approach where players are tasked with piecing together the narrative from scattered fragments.

Announced at TGA 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet currently does not have a set release date, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more details.
