This marks a significant milestone for thatgamecompany as they push the boundaries of interactive storytelling. Beginning July 21st, players will be able to experience a limited in-game screening of The Two Embers: Part One. This silent animated feature dives into the origins of Sky’s world, offering a moving and visually rich tale told entirely through imagery, music, and emotion.
Divided into two parts, The Two Embers follows the parallel journeys of two children whose lives are mysteriously intertwined across time. Part One centers on a young orphan living at the edge of The Ruler’s City—a once-thriving metropolis now slowly crumbling into ruin.
One fateful day, this child discovers an injured baby manatee. From there, the story unfolds with themes of grief, solitude, and the quiet power of compassion. Watching from above, The Ruler observes the kingdom's slow decay as a dark storm looms ever closer.
With no spoken dialogue or voiceovers, the animation relies solely on visual storytelling, soundscapes, and ambient music to convey deep emotional beats. Yet it still manages to capture the sorrow of the child and the fragile hope brought by the presence of the manatee.
Sky: Children of the Light recently released a first look at The Two Embers: Part One, giving fans a glimpse into this cinematic journey:
Each week, a new chapter of the film will become available within Sky Cinema—an exclusive in-game movie theater built specifically for this event. Alongside each chapter, new in-game content will unlock, allowing players to dive deeper into the world and story through interactive experiences.
Rather than releasing The Two Embers as a standalone film or streaming it externally, thatgamecompany has chosen to fully integrate the experience within Sky itself. This decision elevates the game beyond typical entertainment formats and transforms it into a shared narrative space. It's not just a game update—it’s an immersive cinematic journey unfolding within the world you already know and love.
Coupled with plans for Aurora’s concert and now this ambitious animated feature, Sky: Children of the Light is becoming more than a mobile game—it’s a full-fledged artistic experience. Produced by Light & Realm in collaboration with thatgamecompany, and co-produced by Illusorium Studios and Orchid, this project represents one of the most daring storytelling ventures the studio has undertaken to date.
If you haven’t already, check out Sky: Children of the Light on the Google Play Store and prepare yourself for a truly unique digital experience.
