In an exclusive interview with PlayStation.Blog, producer Tomohiko Sho revealed the development process behind Dynasty Warriors: Origins. He emphasized the need for a heightened "sense of realism" on the battlefield, where not only the player's character but also the enemy soldiers and generals are fighting for survival. This directive resulted in tougher and more aggressive enemies.

Despite the increased difficulty, Sho aimed to create a game that offers rewarding challenges rather than frustrating ones. He explained, "Even if you're not that skilled at action games, if you learn the mechanics step by step, you can play comfortably and experience a sense of achievement." Balancing the traditional "musou" genre's thrill of defeating numerous enemies with the gritty realism of a war-torn battlefield was a significant challenge for the team.

Returning To Its "Origins"

A notable departure from the series' convention is the absence of a numerical title in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Typically, the series would have progressed to Dynasty Warriors 10, but Origins breaks this trend, marking it as the first non-numbered title in the franchise's history.

The "Origins" in the title underscores its focus on the initial segment of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, covering only up to the Battle of Chibi, also known as the Battle of the Red Cliffs. In an interview with TheGamer at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Sho elaborated, "We wanted to delve deeply and intensely into this part of the story; it’s one of the epic moments, so we’re concentrating solely on events leading up to that point."
