Des licenciements récents de BioWare, le studio derrière Dragon Age: The Veilguard, ont déclenché une conversation généralisée sur l'état actuel de l'industrie du jeu. Daus fait valoir que des licenciements importants entre ou après les projets sont évitables. Tout en reconnaissant les pressions financières qui nécessitent parfois «la réduction de la graisse», il remet en question les motifs d'efficacité excessifs des grandes entreprises, ce qui suggère qu'ils sont souvent inutiles. Cette réduction des coûts agressive, souligne-t-il, n'est efficace que si une entreprise publie constamment des titres réussis. Les licenciements, à son avis, sont une mesure drastique et de dernière objet.

DAUS met finalement le blâme sur les décisions stratégiques de la haute direction, notant que les employés de niveau inférieur portent constamment le poids de ces choix. Il utilise l'analogie d'un navire de pirate, où le capitaine serait le premier à être jeté par-dessus bord en temps de crise, suggérant que les sociétés de développement de jeux devraient adopter une approche similaire à la responsabilité.
