Angesichts des Online-Rückgangs ändert Valve den Entwicklungsablauf für Deadlock

Deadlock, Valves MOBA-Shooter, verzeichnete einen erheblichen Spielerrückgang, wobei die Spitzenzahl der Online-Spiele jetzt bei etwa 18.000 bis 20.000 liegt, weit entfernt von ihrem anfänglichen Höchstwert von über 170.000. Als Reaktion darauf hat Valve eine strategische Änderung seines Entwicklungsansatzes angekündigt.

Um den Entwicklungsprozess zu verbessern und gründlichere Tests und Implementierung von Änderungen zu ermöglichen, wird Valve von seinem bisherigen zweiwöchentlichen Update-Plan abrücken. Zukünftige Updates werden nach einem weniger starren Zeitplan veröffentlicht, wobei Qualität und Inhalt Vorrang vor der Häufigkeit haben. Während größere Updates seltener erfolgen werden, versichern die Entwickler den Spielern, dass Hotfixes weiterhin bei Bedarf dringende Probleme beheben werden. Ein Entwickler gab an, dass der vorherige zweiwöchige Zyklus zwar hilfreich war, aber nicht genügend Zeit für die vollständige Integration und optimale Funktion der Updates bot.

Diese Änderung der Strategie bedeutet nicht unbedingt, dass Deadlock Probleme hat. Das Spiel befindet sich noch im Early Access und es fehlt ein Veröffentlichungsdatum. Angesichts der laufenden Entwicklung und der möglichen Priorisierung anderer Valve-Projekte (wie etwa des gemunkelten neuen Half-Life-Spiels) scheint eine Veröffentlichung in naher Zukunft unwahrscheinlich.

Valves überarbeiteter Ansatz spiegelt die Entwicklung des Update-Zyklus von Dota 2 wider und legt einen Fokus auf langfristige Qualität und Spielerzufriedenheit nahe. Dass das Unternehmen Wert darauf legt, ein ausgefeiltes Produkt zu entwickeln, anstatt sich an einen strikten Veröffentlichungsplan zu halten, zeugt von der Verpflichtung, langfristig ein erfolgreiches Spiel zu liefern.
