Bethesda hatte ursprünglich vor, Gore- und Verstümmelungs-Spielelemente in Starfield einzubauen, doch technische Einschränkungen zwangen letztendlich zu deren Entfernung.

Dennis Mejillones, ein ehemaliger Charakterkünstler, der an The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4 und Starfield arbeitete, erklärte gegenüber Kiwi Talkz, dass die Komplexität der Raumanzüge das Feature undurchführbar machte.

"Die technischen Herausforderungen, die durch die verschiedenen Raumanzug-Designs entstanden, wurden überwältigend", bemerkte er. "Jeder Anzug erforderte spezifische Überlegungen zur Verstümmelung – Helme benötigten präzise Schnittpunkte, abgetrennte Gliedmaßen benötigten Fleischkappen und so weiter."

"Wir entwickelten Systeme, um diese Mechaniken zu handhaben, aber sie schufen ein unhaltbares Netz von Abhängigkeiten. Die sich entwickelnden Charaktererstellungsoptionen verschärften diese Probleme, besonders bei komplexen Helmdesigns mit Schläuchen und einstellbaren Körperproportionen."

Während einige Spieler enttäuscht darüber waren, dass Starfield die charakteristischen Gore-Mechaniken von Fallout 4 vermisst, argumentierte Mejillones, dass diese besser zu Fallouts dunkelkomischem Ton passen: "Diese rohe Gewalt ergänzt Fallouts schrulligen Humor – sie ist grundlegend für das Erlebnis."

Seit seinem Start im September 2023 hat Starfield trotz anfänglicher Kritik über 15 Millionen Spieler angezogen.
