Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 05,2025

Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player feedback following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates aimed at improving the overall experience.

Initial player and press reviews were mixed, with common criticisms focusing on the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to the established Civilization fanbase.

This initial patch tackles several key issues:

Gameplay Improvements:

  • Resolved an issue causing shorter-than-intended Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States now transition into Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of disappearing. They also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Naval combat inconsistencies have been addressed, improving combat strength calculations, reciprocal damage, and unit movement after battles.
  • Completing a Legacy Path milestone no longer grants Modern Age progress, allowing more time for victory completion.
  • Towns automatically revert to growth focus if their chosen focus becomes ineligible.
  • The "Future Civic" option is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated selections.
  • Fixed a growth bonus issue that resulted in negative food requirements.
  • Rail network reliability has been improved, particularly for settlements connected via water and ports.
  • Loyalty Crisis adjustments in the Antiquity Age include the ability to purchase Villas.

AI Enhancements:

  • AI will less frequently offer high-value cities during peace deals.
  • Reduced AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
  • AI now considers ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment.

Camera Fix:

  • Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions that caused the camera to focus on the map's lower end when clicking the minimap.

UI/UX Updates:

  • Replaced the Simplified Chinese font (temporary, pending further improvements).
  • Fixed issues with opening the Settlement menu, yield icons on converted towns, cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen, and missing notifications for completed espionage actions.
  • City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
  • The current religion is now prioritized in the belief picker.
  • Resolved issues with lingering health bars and missing leader portraits.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary and Victory Rankings screens.
  • Fixed a background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing of Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.

Cross-Play Note: Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players has been temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. This does not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
