Monster Hunter Wilds Weapon Designs: A Departure from World
Concerns arose among fans regarding the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World, prompting speculation about Monster Hunter Wilds' approach. While initial glimpses of Wilds' weapons offered limited insight, Director Yuya Tokuda has clarified the design philosophy.
Tokuda stated that unlike Monster Hunter: World, where weapons retained a base form with variations based on monster materials, Wilds features uniquely designed weapons. This directly addresses concerns about weapon similarity. While some World weapons evolved into unique designs through upgrades, many remained visually similar. The image below illustrates this, showcasing the striking resemblance between the final Aqua and Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final Bone and Jyuratodus Long Swords. These were the highest-tier versions available at launch.
In contrast, the slideshow below showcases the distinct and unique designs of weapons revealed so far in Monster Hunter Wilds.

This design distinction was revealed during discussions about Wilds' new approach to starting weapons and the Hope series gear. Further details can be found in the accompanying concept art of the Hope armor and weapons, and in the in-depth interview about the Oilwell Basin, its inhabitants, and its Apex monster, Nu Udra.
