Alan Wake 2 developers want to become “Europe's Naughty Dog”

Remedy Entertainment's ambition is to become a leading force in the gaming industry. Inspired by Naughty Dog, particularly the Uncharted series, Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley envisions Remedy as "the European equivalent" of this renowned studio.

Rowley, in a Behind The Voice podcast interview, detailed how this influence shaped Quantum Break and subsequently, Alan Wake 2. He explicitly stated their aspiration to be "the European version of Naughty Dog."

This inspiration is clearly reflected in Alan Wake 2's cinematic presentation, lauded for its stunning visuals and gripping narrative. The game's success has firmly established Remedy's standing as a top European developer.

However, Remedy's aspirations extend beyond the horror genre. Naughty Dog's mastery of cinematic, single-player experiences, exemplified by the Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises (the latter being one of gaming's most decorated), serves as a clear benchmark.

Alan Wake 2, even over a year post-launch, continues to receive updates enhancing gameplay across all platforms. Recent improvements include a new "Balanced" graphics option for the PS5 Pro, cleverly combining aspects of the Performance and Quality modes.

These updates also refine the game's graphics settings, aiming for a smoother framerate and reduced visual noise. In addition to PS5 Pro enhancements, several minor gameplay bugs, particularly within the Lake House expansion, have been addressed.
