Stellar Blade Makes Historic PC Debut as Sony's Biggest Single-Player Steam Launch

Sony's action hit Stellar Blade has shattered records on its PC debut, becoming the publisher's most successful single-player Steam launch ever - and it's still climbing. Despite only hitting Steam yesterday (June 11), the game has already attracted over 105,000 simultaneous players, setting its seventh consecutive peak count as I write this.

How Stellar Blade Stacks Up Against Other Sony Hits

The numbers speak volumes when compared to Sony's previous PC blockbusters: Ghost of Tsushima peaked at 77,154 players, God of War reached 73,529, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered capped at 66,436. The only Sony title surpassing Stellar Blade's figures is the multiplayer phenomenon Helldivers 2 - making this Korean-developed action game the undisputed single-player champion in Sony's PC catalog.

PC players are enjoying robust features including Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 upscaling, unlocked framerates, Japanese/Chinese voice options, ultrawide support, enhanced textures, and full DualSense controller integration with haptic feedback.

After initial regional restrictions in 100+ countries, the game has now expanded to over 250 markets worldwide. The modding community has already exploded with dozens of modifications since the demo released, though gamers should note - some aren't exactly workplace appropriate.

The game's success has been so monumental that developer Shift Up has already greenlit a sequel following its April 2024 PlayStation debut. Players have praised its combat system that blends the fluidity of NieR: Automata with the precision of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

IGN's review scored Stellar Blade a 7/10, praising its core action while noting: "Despite excelling where it matters most for an action title, Stellar Blade is held back by forgettable characters, a mediocre narrative, and some frustrating RPG mechanics that prevent it from reaching genre greatness."
