Pokémon TCG Pocket Dev Gifts Players Trade Tokens But Still Doesn't Have Answers to Fix Controversial Feature

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 25,2025

Creatures Inc., the developer of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has addressed player concerns regarding the recently implemented trading mechanic by gifting players 1,000 Trade Tokens. This is sufficient for only two substantial trades. The developer continues to investigate solutions to improve the controversial system.

Players logging in will find the Trade Tokens in their Gift menu without an accompanying message. However, Creatures Inc. issued a statement on X/Twitter expressing gratitude for player feedback and patience. The initial introduction of trading last week was met with significant criticism, with many players labeling the system as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy."

The trading feature, already constrained by existing in-game mechanics limiting pack openings and Wonder Picking, was further restricted by the Trade Token system. Players voiced strong objections to the high cost of acquiring these tokens, requiring the deletion of five cards of equal rarity to trade one.

Despite a prior warning from Creatures Inc. almost three weeks before release, the trading system's launch was met with overwhelming negative feedback. While the developer previously stated, "Your concerns are seen," and invited feedback, the final implementation fell far short of expectations.

Creatures Inc. subsequently acknowledged that "some of the restrictions...are preventing players from being able to casually enjoy" trading. They pledged to address these issues by offering necessary items as rewards in future events. However, the Cresselia ex Drop Event, released on February 3rd, failed to deliver on this promise.

Many players believe the trading system is designed to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated an estimated $200 million in its first month before the trading feature was available. This suspicion is fueled by the inability to trade cards of 2-Star rarity or higher, a restriction seemingly designed to encourage players to spend money on packs for a chance to obtain rare cards. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, highlighting the significant financial investment required.
