The Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster features a revised script optimized for voice acting. Discover the developers' approach to these changes and why players will experience two distinct game versions.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles receives substantial script refinements to accommodate new voice performances. Original writer Yasumi Matsuno revealed in a June 21 interview that while the narrative remains unchanged, nearly every line has been adapted.
Matsuno emphasized preserving the essence of the 1997 PlayStation classic while modernizing its presentation. The team prioritized natural voice acting flow while maintaining the game's distinctive storytelling quality.

"We completely redesigned our approach to favor auditory delivery," Matsuno explained regarding scripting adjustments. "This comprehensive rewrite addresses how modern audiences experience voiced content differently from silent text."
The veteran writer humorously acknowledged potential influences from his evolving perspective: "Some phrasing modifications might reflect my matured outlook - hopefully demonstrating improved craftsmanship rather than just ageing sensibilities!"

The remaster offers two distinct experiences: Classic Mode faithfully preserves the original gameplay, while Enhanced Mode incorporates modern refinements. Developers addressed fan curiosity about avoiding the HD-2D treatment seen in other Square Enix remakes.

Director Kazutoyo Maehiro explained their dual-version strategy: "We recognized that presenting the 30-year-old design unchanged wouldn't resonate with contemporary players, while longtime fans deserve authenticity." He acknowledged the significant resource commitment required for this parallel development approach.

Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa detailed their artistic philosophy: "While we explored 3D models and HD-2D treatment, we ultimately respected the original developers' remarkable achievements within technical constraints." The team enhanced the visuals while preserving the game's unique aesthetic foundation.

This thoughtful remaster ensures Final Fantasy Tactics' legacy endures for both new generations and devoted fans maintaining their nearly three-decade connection to Ivalice's rich tactical world.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles launches September 30, 2025 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
