Former Mass Effect developers at Inflexion Games are overhauling their open-world survival crafting game, Nightingale, addressing player feedback and aiming for a more focused experience. A major summer update is planned to tackle issues highlighted in a recent YouTube video by studio leads Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thomson.

The developers openly acknowledged dissatisfaction with the game's current state, including player numbers and overall reception. While initially focusing on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements (including a much-requested offline mode), the team now aims to refine Nightingale's core vision. A key concern, according to Thomson, is the game's excessively open-world nature, leading to a lack of clear direction and repetitive gameplay loops.

The upcoming update will introduce more structure, providing clearer progression markers, defined goals, and improved realm design to alleviate the feeling of sameness. Higher build limits for more elaborate structures are also on the roadmap. Previews of these changes are promised in the coming weeks.

Despite currently holding a "Mixed" rating on Steam, positive reviews are increasing, with approximately 68% of recent reviews being favorable. Flynn and Thomson expressed appreciation for player feedback and highlighted improvements already made to the game's core mechanics. While acknowledging further work is needed, they expressed optimism about the upcoming update's impact. The team's commitment to refinement suggests a significant shift towards a more directed and engaging experience for players.
