'I'm Really Sorry for How This Went Down' — Work on Path of Exile 1 3.26 on Hold Until Path of Exile 2 0.2.0 Has Shipped, Dev Says

Path of Exile's developer, Grinding Gear Games (GGG), has issued an apology to Path of Exile 1 players for delaying the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been indefinitely postponed due to the unforeseen challenges encountered with Path of Exile 2's launch.

GGG had committed to continued support for Path of Exile 1 alongside the release of Path of Exile 2. However, the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While initially believing they could return to the 3.26 update in time for its February target, the numerous issues plaguing Path of Exile 2, including crashes and balance problems, necessitated their continued involvement.

In a video address, Jonathan Rogers, Path of Exile 2's game director and GGG co-founder, acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. He admitted to being "fooling ourselves" about the timeline and expressed regret for the decision to pull the Path of Exile 1 team. He stated that prioritizing Path of Exile 2's stability was the only responsible course of action given the game's critical state.

Path of Exile 2's launch, while ultimately successful (becoming the 15th most played game on Steam), experienced a delayed release and initial instability. Rogers confirmed that the Path of Exile 1 team will remain focused on Path of Exile 2 until at least version 0.2.0, possibly extending beyond that. He apologized for the lack of a concrete release date for the 3.26 update and admitted to overconfidence in managing two games concurrently. He assured players that a plan for the 3.26 update is in place.
