Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Spectre Divide has swiftly revised the pricing of its in-game skins and bundles in response to player backlash, just hours after the launch of their new online FPS game. Dive into the details of Mountaintop Studios' announcement below.

Spectre Divide Lowers Skin Prices Hours After Launch and Player Backlash

30% SP Refund for Select Players

Spectre Divide's developer, Mountaintop Studios, has taken action to address the community's concerns over the high costs of in-game skins and bundles. In a significant move, the prices of weapons and character skins have been slashed by 17-25%, as confirmed by game director Lee Horn. This decision was made promptly following the game's release, driven by the overwhelming feedback from players.

"We've heard your feedback and we're making changes," Mountaintop Studios declared in their statement. "Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This response was triggered by player outcry over the game's initial pricing model, exemplified by the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which was priced at around $85 (9,000 SP) – a cost that many felt was excessive for a free-to-play game.

Mountaintop Studios has committed to compensating those who bought items before the price drop with a 30% SP refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, certain items like the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will not see any price adjustments. "These packs will not have any adjustments. Anyone who purchased the Founder's pack / Supporter pack, and purchased the items above will get the extra SP added to their account as well," the studio clarified.

The community's response to these changes has been mixed. While some players have expressed appreciation for Mountaintop Studios' responsiveness, others remain critical. At the time of writing, the game's rating on Steam stands at 49% Negative, reflecting the ongoing backlash and review bombing that occurred due to the initial high costs of in-game items.

On social media, reactions vary. A player on Twitter (X) commented, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback." Another suggested further enhancements, stating, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You’d probably get more money from me tbh!"

However, skepticism persists among some fans, with one expressing frustration over the timing of the price adjustments, noting, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it and then you change it. If you keep on going in this direction then I don’t think this game will last any longer. Cause in future you will get heavy competition from other f2p games too."

Mountaintop Studios' swift action to address player concerns and adjust pricing demonstrates their commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with their community, even as they navigate the challenges of a competitive free-to-play market.
