The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is brimming with eerie elements like skeletons, spirits, and zombies, yet no one recalls encountering the mysterious 'ghost horse' in either the original 2006 game or the 2025 remaster. The tale unfolded on Reddit, sparked by a post from user TaricIsNotASupport, who stumbled upon what appears to be a spectral horse waiting to be discovered.
Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting stupid spells in Frostcrag Spire, as it's possibly my favorite way to have fun in this game. However, this time when I left the Cosy Chaos Spire that has divided this community so very much, I noticed something suuuuuuper strange in the distance," TaricIsNotASupport explained. "I did what any of us with the right mind would do and B-lined it over there like a maniac. To my amazement, there was this spectral horse with no name."
With thousands of hours invested in the original Oblivion and over a hundred hours already sunk into the Remaster, TaricIsNotASupport was baffled by this unprecedented sighting. "I don't know if it's something new that's been added, or if I've just missed out on it before and never knew," they mused, prompting the community to embark on a virtual ghost hunt. Despite thorough searches through the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages website, no mention of a spectral mount in the original Oblivion has been found.
To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

Addressing queries about the ghostly steed, TaricIsNotASupport confirmed they are playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available. They even shared a clip of their character riding the horse, which, despite its non-corporeal form, functions just like any other horse in Oblivion. "He fast travels and even gets stabled!" TaricIsNotASupport exclaimed. "By all accounts, it's now my steed!"
Speculation abounds that this ghost horse might be a glitch, perhaps the result of a spell gone awry. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs, and this ghost horse could be another intriguing anomaly. "Very weird, the wiki says there's only 2 unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," commented ClaymoreBeatz. "And there's no horse mods that I can see that do this, so I highly doubt you're lying about not being on PC. This is probably some sort of glitch that the new Remastered has or a glitched magical effect. Armored horses' names change to Armored horse, I think, so maybe it's an Armored horse that got hit by a spell, and now its name and spell effect are glitched."
I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Some community members wonder if developers Bethesda and Virtuos might have sneakily added this ghost horse as a spooky secret for players to uncover in Oblivion Remastered. While less probable, it's an exciting thought that opens the door to pondering what other hidden gems might be lurking in the remaster.
Many players are eager to learn how to replicate the spectral steed for themselves, but so far, no specific method used by TaricIsNotASupport has been identified. In the absence of an official in-game name, TaricIsNotASupport has affectionately dubbed their ghostly companion 'Spookmane,' vowing to continue their adventures with this enigmatic horse by their side. Whether a one-off occurrence, a hidden feature, or a quirky glitch, Spookmane has undoubtedly captured the fascination and affection of the Oblivion community.
"This creature might be my favorite new friend I've made," TaricIsNotASupport declared. "Spookmane, you're glorious and I love you."
Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts a plethora of visual and feature enhancements. Running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, the game also includes improvements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology further enhance the experience. These changes have been well-received by fans, some of whom argue that Oblivion Remastered is more akin to a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified their decision to go with a remaster instead.
With the game now released, players advise newcomers to tackle Kvatch early before the level scaling turns it into a formidable challenge. Reports have also surfaced of a player who managed to break out of Cyrodiil to explore neighboring regions like Valenwood, Skyrim, and Hammerfell, rumored to be the setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
