Nintendo Addresses Switch 2 Rumors in Latest Leak

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025, Nintendo has issued an official statement. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. This marks a rare instance of Nintendo publicly addressing product leaks. The statement emphasizes Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025, rendering any Switch 2 imagery from the event unofficial.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with its reported entry into mass production. One prominent leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.

While Nintendo's statement to the Sankei Shimbun declared the images "not official," it refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy. However, the replica aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting potential validity. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button, labeled "C," positioned below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to shed light on the "C" button, offered additional details. He suggested that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will employ magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and may function as mouse controllers—claims corroborated by other sources.

Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
