Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's PC release is generating excitement, and director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the PC version's features, modding, and the potential for future DLC.

DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision

While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, Hamaguchi revealed in a December 13th Epic Games blog post that resource constraints necessitate prioritizing the completion of the trilogy's final installment. The team's desire to include new content was ultimately shelved. However, Hamaguchi left the door open, stating that significant player demand could influence future decisions regarding DLC. Essentially, the fate of additional content rests with the fans.

A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility

The PC release will undoubtedly attract the modding community, despite the game lacking official mod support. Hamaguchi expressed respect for modders' creativity, but emphasized the importance of responsible modding. He specifically requested that modders refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.

This plea is understandable, given the potential for misuse within the modding community. While mods can significantly enhance gaming experiences through new features, improved visuals, and even entirely new game modes (as seen with examples like Counter-Strike), the presence of inappropriate content remains a concern.

PC Version Enhancements

The PC version boasts graphical upgrades over the PS5 release, addressing past criticisms. Improvements include refined lighting rendering (to mitigate the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces) and higher-resolution 3D models and textures, leveraging the capabilities of more powerful PC hardware. The team also noted challenges in adapting the mini-games for PC controls, requiring extensive work to ensure optimal functionality.
