Blizzard Fails to Extend Diablo 3 Event

Diablo 3's beloved "Fall of Tristram" event is set to conclude on February 1, yet many fans are expressing a desire for its continuation within the game. Despite these pleas, community manager pezradar has clarified that extending the event is currently unfeasible due to technical limitations. "I asked about Tristram and the possibility of extending it, but unfortunately [the event] is hard-coded and it's impossible to make server-side fixes," pezradar stated, highlighting the challenges faced in altering the event's duration.

In addition to addressing the Tristram event, pezradar also discussed the delay of Diablo 3's Season 34 of Call of Light, which has disrupted the weekend plans of many players. "I'm sorry. It's not what I was hoping for. We were notified about 24 hours before we had to adjust the time. The team needs to create new code to ensure a smooth transition between seasons after problems with the automatic scheduler that ended [last 33rd] season early in early January," pezradar explained. This delay, while inconvenient, is necessary to implement and test new code to guarantee a seamless transition of player progress. Pezradar also acknowledged the need for better communication with the community in the future, indicating that the team is taking steps to improve this aspect.

In other gaming news, Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a new free-to-play combat role-playing game that incorporates elements of extraction shooter mechanics. The game's first closed alpha testing phase is set to begin on January 25 for players in Europe, with North American players joining on February 1. "We've blended the tension and risk reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of combat role-playing games," said game director Andrei Cirkulete, suggesting a unique fusion of genres reminiscent of Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. Players will step into the role of a messenger of Death, tasked with restoring order to a shattered world. The studio is keen to gather feedback from players during this alpha phase.
