Mehrere Schlüsselfiguren der Fallout-Reihe, darunter Fallout: New Vegas Regisseur Josh Sawyer, haben ihre Begeisterung für die Entwicklung eines neuen Titels zum Ausdruck gebracht. Es wurde jedoch eine entscheidende Bedingung geknüpft: die Möglichkeit, neue kreative Wege zu erkunden.

Das Bedürfnis nach Neuheit

In einer aktuellen Frage-und-Antwort-Runde auf YouTube erklärte Sawyer seine Bereitschaft, die Leitung eines weiteren Fallout-Titels zu übernehmen, allerdings nur, wenn ihm ausreichend kreativer Spielraum gegeben wird. Er betonte, wie wichtig es sei, Projektgrenzen und den erlaubten Gestaltungsspielraum zu definieren. Ohne die Fähigkeit, innovative Konzepte zu erforschen, verliert das Projekt seinen Reiz. Er brachte es auf den Punkt: „Wenn diese Einschränkungen einfach wirklich einschränkend sind, dann ist das nicht verlockend … wer möchte schon an etwas arbeiten, bei dem das Einzige, was er erforschen möchte, nicht möglich ist?“

Diese Meinung wird von anderen Entwicklern geteilt. Letztes Jahr bekundeten die Mitschöpfer von Fallout, Tim Cain und Leonard Boyarsky, Interesse an einem Remaster von Fallout: New Vegas, aber ähnlich wie bei Sawyer hängt ihre Teilnahme vom Potenzial für Innovation ab. Cain betonte die Notwendigkeit eines neuen Ansatzes und erklärte: „Jedes Rollenspiel, das ich jemals gemacht habe, bot mir etwas Neues und Anderes … Wenn jemand zu mir käme und sagen würde: ‚Du willst ein Fallout-Spiel machen?‘ Meine Antwort lautet: ‚Nun, was gibt es Neues?‘“

Obsidians Perspektive

Feargus Urquhart, CEO von Obsidian Entertainment, teilte auch seinen Wunsch mit, an einem weiteren Fallout-Spiel zu arbeiten, falls sich die Gelegenheit ergeben sollte. In einem Interview mit Game Pressure im Januar 2023 bestätigte er jedoch, dass derzeit kein solches Projekt im Gange sei, und verwies auf Obsidians vollen Terminkalender mit Titeln wie Avowed, Grounded und Outer Worlds 2. Während er die Hoffnung auf ein zukünftiges Fallout-Projekt vor seiner Pensionierung zum Ausdruck brachte, räumte er ein, dass der Zeitpunkt ungewiss sei.
