Ubisoft reagiert auf beunruhigende Missbrauchsvorwürfe bei External Studio

Ubisoft hat eine Erklärung abgegeben, in der es seine tiefe Besorgnis über die Vorwürfe geistiger und körperlicher Misshandlung im Brandoville Studio zum Ausdruck bringt, einem externen Supportstudio, das zu Assassin's Creed Shadows beigetragen hat. Der Bericht, der in einem aktuellen YouTube-Video von „People Make Games“ detailliert beschrieben wird, zeichnet ein beunruhigendes Bild der Arbeitsbedingungen.

Die Spielebranche hat eine besorgniserregende Geschichte von Berichten über Belästigung, Missbrauch und andere schädliche Praktiken. Dieser jüngste Vorfall unterstreicht die dringende Notwendigkeit eines stärkeren Arbeitnehmerschutzes.

Während der Missbrauch nicht innerhalb von Ubisoft selbst stattfand, konzentrieren sich die Vorwürfe auf die Beauftragte von Brandoville Studio, Kwan Cherry Lai (Ehefrau des CEO), die angeblich Mitarbeiter schwerer Misshandlung ausgesetzt hat. Eine Mitarbeiterin, Christa Sydney, erlitt Berichten zufolge geistige und körperliche Misshandlungen, erzwang religiöse Praktiken, Schlafentzug und wurde sogar gezwungen, sich selbst zu verletzen, während sie gefilmt wurde.

Weitere Vorwürfe wurden von anderen Brandoville-Mitarbeitern erhoben, darunter Fälle von Gehaltseinbehaltung und Überlastung einer schwangeren Mitarbeiterin, was zu einer Frühgeburt und dem anschließenden Tod des Kindes führte.

Geschichte und Schließung des Brandoville Studios

Brandoville Studio wurde 2018 gegründet und hat seinen Sitz in Indonesien. Es stellte seinen Betrieb im August 2024 ein. Berichte über Missbrauch stammen angeblich aus dem Jahr 2019, einem Zeitraum, in dem das Studio an Projekten wie Age of Empires 4 und arbeitete Assassin's Creed Shadows. Die indonesischen Behörden untersuchen diese Behauptungen und versuchen Berichten zufolge, Kwan Cherry Lai zu befragen, obwohl ihr aktueller Aufenthaltsort in Hongkong die Sache komplizierter macht.

Das Streben nach Gerechtigkeit für die mutmaßlich Missbrauchten bleibt ungewiss.
