Concord: A Hero Shooter with a Robust Roadmap and No Battle Pass

Launching August 23rd, Sony and Firewalk Studios' Concord is a hero shooter promising a steady stream of post-launch content, starting day one. Unlike many competitors, Concord eschews the traditional battle pass model.

A Focus on Rewarding Gameplay

Game director Ryan Ellis emphasizes a commitment to consistent updates: "We see launch as just the beginning...of how we support and grow the game with our players." Instead of a battle pass, progression through gameplay, leveling characters, and completing objectives unlocks meaningful rewards.

Season 1: The Tempest – Arriving in October

Season 1, "The Tempest," introduces a new Freegunner character, a fresh map, additional character variants, cosmetic items, and weekly cinematic vignettes expanding the Northstar crew's story. A cosmetic in-game store will also debut, offering optional customization options without affecting gameplay balance.

Future Plans and Beyond

Season 2 is slated for January 2025, with Firewalk Studios promising regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year.

Mastering Concord's Crew Builder System

Ellis provides gameplay insights, highlighting the "Crew Builder" system. Players build teams of five Freegunners, allowing up to three copies of a character's variants. This fosters diverse team compositions tailored to playstyles and match challenges. Combining Freegunners from different roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, Warden) unlocks Crew Bonuses, enhancing mobility, weapon accuracy, and cooldowns. Unlike traditional roles, Concord's Freegunners focus on high damage output in direct combat, with roles defined by their strategic impact on the match.
