How to Get XP and Level Up Fast in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 19,2025

Mastering the skills in *Assassin's Creed: Shadows* requires a strategic approach to XP farming. Leveling up your Samurai and Shinobi quickly hinges on efficient XP acquisition. This guide outlines the best methods to maximize your XP gains.

What Awards XP in Assassin's Creed: Shadows?

XP in Assassin's Creed: Shadows is earned through a variety of actions. Eliminating enemies, completing assassinations, finishing quests, and engaging in side activities all contribute to your XP total. However, the XP yield varies significantly between activities, making strategic prioritization crucial for efficient leveling. Check the XP value of quests and activities by hovering over them on the map or in the objectives tab. The most efficient XP sources are castles and optional assassinations.

Fast XP Farming: Castles in Assassin's Creed: Shadows

Numerous castles across Japan offer substantial XP rewards. Each castle is heavily guarded, presenting opportunities to earn XP by eliminating standard and elite enemies, along with Samurai Daisho. Defeating the required number of Daisho unlocks a chest containing high-tier loot. Completing a castle yields several thousand XP, but additional XP is earned by eliminating every enemy within. Elite enemies and Samurai Daisho provide significant XP bonuses (approximately 250 XP each). Synchronizing with viewpoints within the castle also awards a few hundred XP and establishes fast travel points.

While castles provide excellent XP, they can be challenging. Optimizing your approach is key to maximizing XP gains:

  • Character Selection: Naoe's Eagle Vision allows for efficient enemy detection and tagging of Samurai Daisho, facilitating stealth assassinations. However, maximizing assassination damage through mastery and engravings is crucial for one-hit kills. Yasuke is more effective at lower levels, allowing for a more aggressive, open-combat approach. Triggering the alarm bell draws enemies together, creating opportunities for efficient mass eliminations.

  • Strategic Approach: A skilled player can acquire 4,000 XP or more from a castle in a few minutes using these tactics.

Beyond main quest assassinations, numerous optional assassination targets exist. These quests are discovered by interacting with specific NPCs. Using Kakurega fast travel points allows for rapid access to target locations. Each assassination provides a substantial XP bonus (typically 2,000-3,000 XP), in addition to XP earned from the kill itself. Completing all targets within a group and reporting back to the quest giver yields an even larger bonus (around 5,000 XP).
