Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Taken Over by Tencent as Majority Shareholder

Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer of popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.

Tencent's Expanded Investment in Kuro Games

Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Taken Over by Tencent as Majority Shareholder

Tencent's share acquisition boosts its stake to approximately 51.4%, making it the controlling shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now Kuro Games' sole external investor.

Maintaining Independence

Despite the significant investment, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games states this change will foster a more stable environment and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has not yet publicly commented on the acquisition.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved notable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue. Both games continue to receive regular updates, with Wuthering Waves even earning a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
