Author:Kristen Update:Apr 27,2025

Sydney Sweeney is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's critically acclaimed game, Split Fiction. The project, spearheaded by video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen, is gaining momentum with notable talent attached. Jon M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, will helm the film, while the screenplay is being crafted by the dynamic duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As the project is being shopped around to Hollywood studios, a bidding war is anticipated.

The role Sydney Sweeney will take on in Split Fiction remains undecided between the two sisters, Zoe or Mio. This decision is eagerly awaited by fans of both the actress and the game.

Split Fiction, which launched in March, has already proven to be a massive hit for Hazelight and its designer, Josef Fares, selling over 2 million copies in its first week. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review of the game awarded it a 9/10, praising it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success with Split Fiction follows the trailblazing path of their 23 million-selling game, It Takes Two, which is also being adapted into a movie, potentially starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While there's always a risk that these adaptations might not come to fruition, the current surge in successful video game adaptations suggests a promising outlook for these projects.

Story Kitchen, in addition to Split Fiction, is also working on several other high-profile adaptations, including Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping the excitement alive among its fanbase.
