Paradox Teases New Grand Strategy Game, Fans Speculate

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 05,2025

Paradox Interactive, the studio behind Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3, is set to reveal something "ambitious" next week.

Although the team hasn't shared any concrete details yet, they reminded everyone that Paradox has spent the past 25 years creating and releasing strategy games "that have transported players from the Roman Empire to the stars." Now, they teased, they are "getting ready to unveil the next major title in the genre."

The mysterious new game—currently identified only by its codename, Caesar—has been openly discussed in a series of developer diaries called "Tinto Talks" on the studio’s forum. Throughout these posts, the team has gathered community input on feature concepts, core game systems, and historical accuracy, explaining that "now it’s time to introduce Caesar to the world."

The latest Tinto Talks—coming from the Barcelona-based development team, Studio Tinto—delved into the mechanics of Protestant religions and the "final scenario involving all Western Christian denominations, the War of Religions," as part of their "completely top-secret project codenamed Caesar."

That, along with the hint that the announcement trailer will premiere on the official Europa Universalis YouTube channel, hints that the secret project could be a new entry in that series… though nothing is confirmed at this point.

Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from sharing their own theories, with many drawing the same conclusion—that the game is likely tied to Europa Universalis.

"The developer diaries haven’t referred to it as EU5, but all the teasers so far strongly point in that direction," noted one player on Reddit. Another, replying to a comment about the video releasing on the Europa Universalis channel, joked: "Maybe there were hints all along, huh."

"Honestly, it’s been an open secret for over a year, thanks to the Tinto Talks threads on the Paradox forum," added another user.

To learn more and see whether the rumors are accurate, be sure to watch Paradox’s video on May 8, 2025, at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm UK time), where they’ll reveal "a new era for grand strategy."

We thoroughly enjoyed the last Europa Universalis title, giving it an 8.9/10 in IGN’s Europa Universalis 4 review, where we said: "Europa Universalis IV brings accessibility and flexibility to the strategy series without losing its depth."
