Stellar Blade Dev Shift Up Posts Record Year, Sales of PC Version Still Expected to Outsell PS5

Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, has announced a record-breaking year, with Stellar Blade generating $43 million in royalties. The PC version is projected to surpass the PlayStation 5 sales figures.

Game World Observer reported that Shift Up's 2024 financial report showed a 30.4% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $151.4 million. A significant portion, $43.2 million, stemmed directly from Stellar Blade royalties.

The company anticipates continued success, expecting PC sales to outperform console sales, particularly within the Asian gaming market. Shift Up also intends to unveil its new title, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. However, this isn't the anticipated Stellar Blade sequel, though a sequel is under consideration.

Project Witches was initially announced in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct follow-up.

Stellar Blade, a fast-paced action RPG, puts players in the role of Eve as she fights to reclaim Earth from mysterious invaders. While achieving a 7/10 rating in IGN's review and selling over a million copies, the game's reception was mixed, with criticism focused on underdeveloped characters, a weak narrative, and frustrating RPG mechanics hindering its potential. Our review noted its strong action elements but criticized its uninspired characters, lackluster storyline, and problematic RPG mechanics.
