Stardew Valley 2 Considered, But Easier to Expand Original Game

Author:Kristen Update:May 29,2025

Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has hinted at the possibility of developing a sequel, though he emphasized that creating entirely new content for the existing game remains far simpler. In an interview with TigerBelly, Barone noted that the complex systems underpinning Stardew Valley are already established, making updates more straightforward. He described the process of adding features as akin to casually incorporating new ideas, such as introducing "green rain" or other whimsical additions.

While Barone expressed openness to the idea of a Stardew Valley 2, he acknowledged the significant effort required to build something from scratch. He also revealed that his current focus lies elsewhere, as he aims to step away from being solely associated with the original game. His next project, Haunted Chocolatier, is still in its early stages, with much work remaining to ensure it surpasses the success of its predecessor.

Our review of Stardew Valley in 2016 awarded it an impressive 8.8 rating, praising its innovative approach to farming simulations. By 2024, the game had earned a perfect 10/10 score, lauded as a masterpiece that continues to captivate players through regular updates. The 2024 1.6 update introduced exciting new elements, such as additional crops, fish, and the engaging Raccoon Family Quests, which unlock a new shop and valuable rewards.
