EA's VP Vince Zampella provided an update on the status of the Need for Speed franchise. With NFS Unbound released over two years ago and no subsequent announcements, Zampella clarified that Criterion Games, the developer, is currently fully committed to the development of the next Battlefield game.
EA's primary focus is on this new Battlefield title, a project involving four studios and incorporating substantial player feedback to avoid repeating the launch issues of Battlefield 2042. This player-centric approach extends to future Need for Speed content as well.
It's highly probable that EA will shift its attention back to Need for Speed only after the release and initial post-launch support of the new Battlefield game. This delay might prove beneficial, allowing time for fans to move past recent NFS disappointments and potentially fostering renewed anticipation for a potential franchise reboot.
In short, no new Need for Speed announcements are anticipated in the foreseeable future.
