Sony's State of Play Smashes Viewership Records

PlayStation's State of Play showcase in June 2025 soared to new heights, shattering concurrent viewership records for the series. Sony ignited the summer gaming season with a spectacular showcase, teasing thrilling experiences ahead of Summer Games Fest Week—including first looks at 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.

A Historic Peak for Sony's Showcase

Streams Charts reports that this State of Play peaked with over 2.2 million live viewers—a first for Sony's digital events. The broadcast now stands as 2025's third most-watched gaming or tech showcase by peak viewership, trailing only two Nintendo Direct presentations (with the Switch 2 reveal understandably dominating).

Play

As noted by Push Square, this wasn't Sony's absolute biggest livestream—the PS5 reveal event still holds that crown with 44 million views. Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn presentations previously drew massive audiences, too, earning 15 million and 10 million views respectively. Yet Tuesday's State of Play stands out as the most-watched in the series’ history.

A Third-Party Powerhouse

This year’s showcase primarily spotlighted third-party studios—especially Japanese developers—with standout reveals from Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. Surprisingly, Sony's own first-party games took more of a backseat.

The presentation felt squarely aimed at hardcore players, with a strong lineup of action-heavy titles—many likely targeting mature audiences. Whether it was blood-pumping combat or atmospheric horror, this State of Play didn't hold back.
