Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is on track for a 2025 release. The dedicated team of volunteer developers behind this massive modding project shared their progress and reaffirmed their commitment to the 2025 launch during a recent developer update stream.

Skyblivion is not just a straightforward remake; it's a comprehensive overhaul of the beloved classic. The team is enhancing various aspects of the original game, from making unique items truly distinctive to revamping bosses like Mannimarco to meet their legendary status. A highlight from their livestream was the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest, which now boasts stunning visuals.

The Skyblivion team remains hopeful and optimistic about meeting their 2025 deadline, expressing enthusiasm for the final stages of development. "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation," they stated during the stream.

However, the project faces an intriguing challenge with the rumored official remake of Oblivion. Earlier this year, alleged details of an Oblivion remake emerged, hinting at potential changes to combat and other elements. Microsoft, the parent company of Bethesda, has yet to confirm these rumors, despite documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023 mentioning an Oblivion remaster alongside other projects.

Given Bethesda's history of supporting modding communities across their titles, from older games to the recent Starfield, it remains to be seen how an official Oblivion remake might impact Skyblivion. Fans hope that this fan-made project will not encounter obstacles similar to those faced by Fallout London right before its launch.
