Surviving a zombie apocalypse in Project Zomboid is no small feat, and securing a safehouse is crucial for your continued existence. One of the most effective ways to keep the undead at bay is by setting up makeshift barricades, with the boarded window being a fundamental defense mechanism. If you're unsure how to barricade your windows, here’s a straightforward guide to help you fortify your base.

To board up your windows, you'll need to gather a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have these items in your inventory, simply right-click on the window you want to barricade. Your character will then begin hammering the plank onto the window frame, and you can repeat this process up to four times per window to increase its strength.
You can find nails and hammers in typical spots like toolboxes, garages, tool sheds, and closets. Planks are commonly found at construction sites, but if you're in a pinch, you can also salvage them from wooden furniture such as shelves and chairs. If you're an admin in Project Zomboid, you can use the "/additem" command to spawn necessary items directly into your inventory.

Barricaded windows are significantly more resistant to zombie attacks than their unbarricaded counterparts. The more planks you attach, the longer it will take for zombies to break through. If you need to remove the planks later, right-click on them and choose the Remove option, making sure you have a claw hammer or a crowbar handy.
It's worth noting that placing large furniture like bookshelves or refrigerators in front of windows won't help in blocking zombie access, as both you and the zombies can simply pass through them. However, knowing how to move furniture can still be useful for rearranging your safehouse.
For even stronger defenses, consider using metal bars or sheets to create more durable barricades. This requires a sufficient level of Metalworking skill, but it can greatly enhance your base's security.
