Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

Navigating the treacherous landscapes of Eora in *Avowed* is no easy feat, but with the right companions by your side, you'll be well-equipped to face any challenge. *Avowed* offers four unique Companions, each bringing distinct personalities and a range of upgradable abilities to your adventure. Here's a comprehensive look at each Companion you can recruit in *Avowed*:

Kai

Kai in Avowed

Kai is the first proper Companion you'll meet in *Avowed*, joining your party early in the game at the port of Dawnshore near Paradis. You'll encounter him right on the dock, and together, you'll embark on a mission to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. Kai remains a steadfast member of your party until you recruit three Companions, after which you can swap him out at a Party Camp.

A former mercenary with a tender side, Kai excels as a tank in combat. He's adept at both absorbing and dishing out damage. Additionally, his fire abilities are invaluable for clearing obstructions like cobwebs and roots, facilitating the discovery of hidden pathways and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire (Active): Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, causing high stun to a single enemy and taunting them for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense (Active): Kai regenerates health and increases his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring (Active): Kai performs a mighty leap, stunning and taunting all nearby enemies upon landing.
  • Second Win (Passive): When Kai's health hits zero, he revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.

Marius

Marius in Avowed

Marius, the second Companion you'll encounter, shares a history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. He joins your party from the moment you meet him in a bar, where you can choose to either negotiate or fight off some accosting NPCs.

As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings his skills into his personality, narrative, and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability helps you locate loot and crafting materials across the Living Lands. In combat, Marius harnesses his wild side, using a bow and arrow, daggers, and the ability to trap enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities include:

  • Binding Roots (Active): Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
  • Heart Seeker (Active): Marius takes aim and fires a piercing shot that always hits its target, passing through any obstacle.
  • Shadow Step (Active): Marius vanishes into a cloud of smoke, reappearing near an enemy to slash them with his daggers, repeating this action up to 3 times.
  • Wounding Shots (Passive): Marius's attacks cause bleed accumulation.

Giatta

Giatta in Avowed

Giatta, the third Companion, joins your party later in the main quest in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic within the Living Lands, playing a crucial role in unraveling the spiritual mysteries of *Avowed*'s main quest.

In gameplay, Giatta serves as a support character, excelling in healing, shielding, and buffing allies. Though she doesn't deal much direct damage, her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, can activate Essence Generators, helping to uncover hidden pathways and loot during exploration.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification (Active): Giatta emits a wave of energy that heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier (Active): Giatta provides all allies with a shield that grants temporary health for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration (Active): Giatta boosts the movement and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction (Passive): Giatta's attacks heal all allies by a small amount.

Yatzli

Yatzli in Avowed

Yatzli, the fourth and final Companion, joins your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn. Although you might encounter her earlier in the world, she officially joins your team later.

Like Giatta, Yatzli is a mage, but she focuses on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, capable of inflicting heavy damage on enemies, with options for both single-target and crowd control. Additionally, Yatzli's magic can clear obstacles, making her an invaluable asset for exploration in the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities include:

  • Essence Explosion (Active): Yatzli unleashes an arcane power that explodes on contact, releasing a burst of Essence and causing explosive damage.
  • Minoletta's Missile Battery (Active): Yatzli launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion (Active): Yatzli manipulates arcane energy around an enemy, slowing them for 10 seconds.
  • Blast (Passive): Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon connecting with an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in *Avowed*, each bringing their unique skills and abilities to enhance your journey through the Living Lands.
