Pokémon TCG Pocket Update: Trading Feature Delayed Until Autumn

Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

The launch of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was met with enthusiasm, but it soon faced its first significant challenge with the trading system. Initially, trading was marred by the need for scarce currency and restrictive trading rules, leaving many players frustrated. However, a recent update aims to address these issues and improve the trading experience.

A key change is the complete removal of Trade Tokens. Now, trading cards with three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarities will require Shinedust, a new currency you'll earn by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in your Card Dex. If you currently hold Trade Tokens, they can be converted into Shinedust, which is also used to obtain flair. Further updates to Shinedust are planned, including a new feature allowing you to share cards you're interested in trading through an in-game function.

As previously noted, the initial implementation of trading felt half-hearted. The digital nature of the game necessitates stricter trading rules to prevent abuse, which differs significantly from real-life trading. These changes are set to roll out by autumn, which, considering we're still in spring, indicates a slower response time than many players would prefer.
