Pizza Tower, Castlevania Dominus Arrive on Switch

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 02,2025

Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases means our typically quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's a welcome change. We've got news, a review of the day's eShop additions, and our usual rundown of new and expiring sales. Let's dive in!

News

Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Bounty of Games

Nintendo's decision to present two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a wealth of announcements. While a comprehensive list is beyond this scope, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Effect: Connected, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new entries in the Atelier and Rune Factory franchises, and much more. I highly recommend watching the full video for a complete overview. A treasure trove of titles for diverse gaming preferences awaits.

Select New Releases

Castlevania: Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A third Castlevania compilation joins the fray, a pleasant surprise from the Direct. This collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the notoriously poor arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. M2's expertise shines through with excellent emulation and a comprehensive feature set. Exceptional value for the price.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This frenetic platformer, reminiscent of Wario Land, sprints onto the Switch as another Direct surprise. Conquer the five colossal floors of the Pizza Tower to demolish it and rescue your restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this irresistible, but even those without a strong Wario connection who enjoy platformers should give it a try. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

The shadow drop extravaganza continues! It's Wednesday, and these surprise releases are keeping things interesting. Goat Simulator 3 needs little introduction. While performance on the Switch remains unverified, I'm aware that more powerful systems experience occasional difficulties. Proceed with caution, though the potential for chaotic fun might outweigh performance issues. Silly goats, silly antics, open world mayhem – your Switch might just survive.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's tempting to criticize EA's missed opportunity to bring PopCap games to the Switch, Peglin more than fills the void for Peggle enthusiasts. Already available on mobile, this title expertly blends Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A review is forthcoming.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's familiar shop simulation formula gets a fresh coat of paint with the Doraemon license. This title features characters from the beloved manga and anime, and even includes cameos from the creator's other works. A charming addition to the genre.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate locally or online, and the more, the merrier philosophy applies perfectly here. Cooperative puzzle-solving is at the heart of this game. A solid sequel, but unlikely to attract many newcomers.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple, enjoyable, and perfectly priced.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels of crate-pushing await.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Utilize your character's abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems. Local and online multiplayer for up to four players.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A predominantly NIS America sale this week, but deals on Balatro, Frogun, and The King of Fighters XIII Global Match are also available. The expiring sales list is substantial, so careful perusal is recommended.
