Oblivion Remastered Update Sparks Visual Issues, Bethesda Promises Swift Fix

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC players encountered issues after an unannounced update rolled out today, with Bethesda confirming a solution is in progress.

Players discovered an unexpected update for Virtuos’ major re-release this morning. Without patch notes or clarity on its purpose, many continued their gameplay as usual. However, some quickly noticed that the initial Oblivion Remastered update introduced more issues than it resolved.

Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the games first weekend?!!?

“Upscaling options are now inaccessible,” one Reddit user highlighted. “It’s locked to ‘off,’ and clicking the arrows does nothing. I exited the game, turned off fluid motion in the NVidia app (was experimenting before the patch), and relaunched. Save file loading times are back to being slow, and upscaling settings still can’t be adjusted lol.

“I’m now stuck at 40-60 fps on high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Great patch :D”

While some players report no significant performance changes, others are grappling with new challenges like reduced framerates. Many have also pointed out that upscaling settings are entirely disabled, creating significant visual disruptions ahead of Oblivion Remastered’s debut weekend.

Bethesda responded to player concerns via a post on its official support page. The update, intended to include “minor backend adjustments with no direct gameplay impact,” appears to have affected those playing Oblivion Remastered via the Microsoft Store, particularly with upscaling and anti-aliasing settings.

“Graphics settings adjusted before the Microsoft Store hotfix remain active and function as expected,” Bethesda explained. “However, the settings UI issue temporarily prevents further adjustments. Our team is investigating and working on a fix, and we’ll provide updates soon.”

For now, no timeline exists for resolving what was meant to be a minor hotfix. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S players appear unaffected and can continue their sessions.
