NieR: Automata - Where To Get Filler Metal

Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide

This guide details the two primary methods for acquiring Filler Metal, a crucial upgrade material in NieR: Automata. Note that obtaining this resource can be challenging, requiring either extensive farming or a significant in-game investment.

Method 1: Farming Filler Metal in the Factory

Filler Metal is a rare drop found within the Factory area. Its spawn location is randomized, making farming inefficient. The probability of finding Filler Metal is significantly lower than other items.

To optimize your search:

  • Access Point: Utilize the "Factory: Hanger" access point for faster travel to a suitable starting location within the Factory. You may need to progress through the main story to unlock this access point.
  • Exploration: Thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawning items. While movement speed boosts can help, consistent acquisition of Filler Metal remains unreliable.

Method 2: Purchasing Filler Metal in the Amusement Park

A more reliable (though expensive) method involves purchasing Filler Metal from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option only becomes available after completing all three playthroughs and achieving one of the final endings. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will unlock Filler Metal in its inventory at a cost of 11,250 G per unit.

While the price is high, this method offers a guaranteed supply, unlike the unpredictable farming approach. Given the necessity of Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal to overcome high-level enemies, this may be the more practical strategy for players with sufficient Gil.
