Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 has seen an explosive surge in mod usage following the release of Patch 7. The response has been phenomenal, with an overwhelming number of players embracing the modding community's creations.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke himself tweeted about the incredible uptake, stating that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th launch. This figure was later eclipsed by mod.io founder Scott Reismanis, who reported that installs surpassed three million and were still climbing. "Modding is pretty big," Vincke acknowledged.

Patch 7's impact extends beyond the sheer volume of mod installations. It introduced significant new content, including alternative evil endings, enhanced split-screen functionality, and Larian's official Mod Manager. This integrated tool simplifies the process of browsing, installing, and managing mods directly within the game.

The separate modding toolkit, accessible via Steam, empowers modders to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. It facilitates custom script loading, basic debugging, and direct mod publishing.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

A community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked," featuring a level editor and reactivated development features, highlights the community's ingenuity. While Larian initially exercised caution regarding full tool access, Vincke confirmed their commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the complexities involved in ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The PC version will lead the way, with console support following after addressing potential issues.

Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivered a refined gaming experience with UI improvements, new animations, expanded dialogue choices, and substantial bug fixes and performance enhancements. With further updates planned, Larian's continued dedication to modding and overall game improvement is evident.
