Despite the risk of account bans, players of *Marvel Rivals* continue to use mods, even after the implementation of stricter measures with the launch of Season 1. Since the game's highly successful debut in December, fans have been customizing skins, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from *Dragon Ball* and Mantis into a goth persona. There's also a popular mod that morphs Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from *Chainsaw Man*.
Last week, alongside the introduction of the Fantastic Four and the start of Season 1, *Marvel Rivals* quietly introduced a new mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase had previously warned against the use of mods, emphasizing that the game's terms and conditions prohibit any form of unauthorized third-party software, including mods, cheats, bots, and hacks. In a statement to IGN, NetEase reiterated, "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."

This workaround has been shared across various online platforms. Modder Prafit, who posted their solution on Nexus Mods, warned users: "Use at your own risk," stating in the mod's description, "By using this you are actually circumventing a system that was created to stop us from modding on the Season 1 patch start. No-one knows if NetEase will ban you, but they have never issued permabans as far as we know."
Following the release of the Fantastic Four, new mods have emerged, capitalizing on these new characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the *One Piece* manga. According to Nexus Mods statistics, this Luffy mod has been downloaded over 5,000 times in just two days since its release.

The ongoing question for *Marvel Rivals* modders and users is whether NetEase will follow through on its threat to ban accounts. While no confirmed cases of bans for modding have surfaced, the availability of workarounds could prompt further action from the developers.
NetEase's stance on banning mods may stem from several concerns, including potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property issues, and the impact on game balance and performance. Modder Prafit noted that their workaround is best suited for users with high-performance PCs.
In the meantime, players can stay updated with the *Marvel Rivals* Season 1 patch notes, and review official stats on Marvel Rivals' pick and win rates in Quickplay and Competitive modes from Season 0.
