Marvel Mainstay Dan Slott Returns to DC with 'Superman Unlimited'

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 20,2025

DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, bringing acclaimed Marvel writer Dan Slott back to DC. Slott, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity. This marks a significant return, following previous DC contributions like Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures.

Slott describes the series as a lifelong dream, focusing not only on Superman's powers but also his core character. He promises surprising stories featuring Superman, Lois Lane, familiar villains, and new adversaries.

The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet saturated with Green K, empowering Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This forces Superman to develop innovative technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global media giant following its merger with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares Superman Unlimited's impact to that of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. He highlights the series' focus on large-scale adventures while introducing a significant new plot point: a massive Kryptonite deposit. This creates a world where even minor criminals pose a serious threat to Superman.

Kaminski further contrasts Superman Unlimited with DC's Justice League Unlimited, emphasizing the former's focus on super-villains empowered by the widespread Green K. He praises Slott's inventive storyline and Albuquerque's striking artwork, promising a pivotal year for Superman in 2025.

A 10-page prelude story will appear in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), leading into Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film (July 11).
