Lunar DLC for Cyberpunk 2077: Details of Unreleased Space Expansion Revealed

Cyberpunk 2077 fans were once teased with the prospect of a thrilling DLC that would have taken the game's narrative to the Moon. Although the ambitious project was ultimately shelved, dedicated blogger and dataminer SirMZK has unearthed intriguing details from the game's code, revealing CD Projekt RED's grand vision for this cosmic expansion.

Hidden within the game's files are references to expansive lunar surface maps, designated areas such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a model for a rover. This Moon location was envisioned to be vast, potentially covering a quarter of Night City's size, and designed as an open world. This would have dramatically expanded the gameplay, allowing players to venture far beyond the familiar neon-lit streets of Night City into a new frontier.

A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Though it didn't make it into the final game, eagle-eyed players can spot the Crystal Palace in one of Cyberpunk 2077's endings, glimpsed through a spaceship window. Additionally, files hint at a prototype for a zero-gravity bar, connected to a cut quest named "201," which was part of the Arasaka storyline.

Hope lingers among fans that these scrapped ideas might find new life in CD Projekt RED's next venture, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm whether these concepts will be revisited.

Although the Moon DLC remains a tantalizing "what if" for now, the unearthed details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been—a daring leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into the realm of space exploration, seamlessly integrating it with the game's distinctive cyberpunk atmosphere.
