Originally slated to be Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry was released in 2001 after undergoing significant changes from its initial concept, leading Capcom to develop it as a standalone title. Reflecting on its origins, Kamiya revealed that the game's creation was fueled by personal experiences. In 2000, after a painful breakup, he channeled his emotions into the development of DMC, transforming his heartbreak into a groundbreaking action game.

Kamiya admits he rarely replays his own games, including DMC. Yet, when he encounters gameplay clips, he recognizes the game's age, noting its design as a product of its time. If given the opportunity to remake it, he envisions leveraging contemporary technology and design methodologies to create a fresh experience. Although he's not actively planning the project, Kamiya remains open to the idea, saying, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."

Beyond DMC, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans that these cherished games might return in modernized forms. As the industry continues to embrace the revival of classics, the prospect of a Kamiya-led DMC remake is an exciting possibility for gamers worldwide.
