Want to conquer the fiery Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* without getting scorched or losing your precious meat? Don't worry, fellow hunter, we've got you covered. In this guide, we'll dive deep into its weaknesses, effective strategies, dangerous attacks to avoid, and how you can both defeat and capture this formidable foe.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds - Quematrice Battle

The Quematrice, resembling a colossal chicken akin to the legendary Cockatrice, fortunately breathes fire instead of petrifying its opponents. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to a variety of weapons, though its area-based attacks suggest opting for weapons with some range might be wise for less confident hunters.

When facing the Quematrice, pay close attention to its attacks. Its tail can deal significant damage, especially with the tail slam, where it raises its tail high before crashing it down. You can dodge this by sidestepping or blocking effectively. However, the real threat comes from its fire-based attacks, which not only inflict immediate damage but can ignite you, causing continuous health drain, and set the ground ablaze.

These fire attacks are tricky due to their minimal warning signs. The Quematrice might rear its head and roar before unleashing a flame from its tail. It can also perform a sweeping fire attack after a similar posture, affecting a wide area around it. Another dangerous move is its charging attack, where it runs towards you and at the last moment, turns to fling fire in your direction. If you're fighting at range, start moving back as soon as you see these moves to avoid the flames.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds - Quematrice Capture

To capture the Quematrice, you'll need the right gear: a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is technically sufficient, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games, especially if the monster escapes or another beast triggers it.

Once the Quematrice is sufficiently weakened and starts limping, or if you notice the skull icon appearing and disappearing on your mini-map, it's time to set your trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away; this simplifies the process. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to successfully capture it.
