GTA 5 Enhanced Edition Flops on Steam

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 19,2025

Rockstar's enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 is facing significant backlash on Steam following its March release. The remastered version currently holds a 'mixed' rating, with only 54% of its 19,772 user reviews being positive - a stark contrast to the original version's 'very positive' rating before its removal from Steam.

This negative reception makes GTA 5 Enhanced the lowest-rated GTA title on Steam, performing worse than even the problematic Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition's 66% approval rating.

The free upgrade was intended to bring PC players parity with console versions, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S-exclusive features like Hao's Special Works upgrades, animal encounters, and GTA+ membership access, along with graphical improvements and faster load times.

The primary complaint stems from widespread account migration issues preventing players from transferring their existing progress. Many negative reviews highlight Rockstar's inexplicable migration restrictions and unhelpful customer support responses to these problems.

Despite these frustrations, the enhanced edition remains one of Steam's most-played titles, recently peaking at 187,059 concurrent players. However, the problematic launch has raised concerns about Rockstar's ability to deliver a smooth PC version of the highly anticipated GTA 6.

GTA 6 PC Release Predictions

Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6's fall 2025 release exclusively for current-gen consoles, continuing their pattern of delayed PC ports. A former developer recently attempted to justify this approach, asking PC gamers for patience regarding the studio's release strategy.

The controversy coincides with Take-Two's legal action against PlayerAuctions for facilitating cheated GTA Online accounts, along with Rockstar's acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, now rebranded as Rockstar Australia.
