Forspoken Free on PS Plus: Divisive Game Draws Mixed Reactions

Forspoken, a year post-launch, continues to spark heated discussions among players, even with its PS Plus free-to-play availability. The game's reception remains sharply divided, with those who played it for free echoing many of the sentiments expressed by those who purchased it at full price.

The December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup announcement revealed surprisingly positive anticipation for Forspoken (alongside Sonic Frontiers). However, a significant portion of players abandoned the game within hours, citing poor storytelling and "ridiculous dialogue" as major drawbacks. While some appreciated the combat, parkour, and exploration, the overall consensus points to the narrative and dialogue as significant deterrents to enjoyment.

It seems unlikely that PS Plus will significantly revive Forspoken's fortunes, given its inherent inconsistencies. The action RPG follows Frey, a New Yorker transported to the breathtaking yet perilous land of Athia. Armed with newfound magical abilities, Frey must navigate this expansive world, battling monstrous creatures and powerful matriarchs known as the Tants, all in a desperate bid to return home.
